Speed of the Raven- 25PL Dark Angels List Development & Gameplay

A few weeks ago, I played my first game of Warhammer 40k at 25PL and came away with a few observations. I was essentially running the combat patrol box and though I was able to make a mess of the enemy warlord in a single turn via the Redemptor’s Micro Plasma incinerator, I just didn’t have enough board presence. Due to this, my opponent was able to simply stay out of line of sight and capture the objectives, obtaining a comfortable win on points. I went back to the drawing board and came away with a revised list which I got to play on Thursday. Here is how it went…

Getting ready for my first game of 40k 9th Edition (With post game summary and my thoughts.)

My local gaming shop is re-opening it’s doors to players which means I will finally be able to play a game of 40k 9th edition. This is quite strange for me as though I’ve been involved with Warhammer for years, I’ve never been that involved in the gaming side of things. Since deciding to get back into 40k last year and getting my Dark Angels army, I’ve been fully intending to play and now the opportunity is finally here, I’m a bit nervous.

Dark Angels Horus Heresy style Test Squad and General Progress

I’ve been doing a fair bit of work over the last week with my Dark Angels, adding some finishing touches to my Ravenwing and Deathwing. You will have already seen these miniatures from my previous posts however I’ve now finished adding red detailing to tie these miniatures into the new paint scheme for my “green wing”.

A.O.S Cities of Sigmar- List Tweaking for the glory of Sigmar!

To me, the Freeguild Greatswords are one of the coolest looking unit choices in the cities of sigmar range. What are essentially fantasy landsknecht soldiers, these guys pack one hell of a punch and look fancy doing it. 2 attacks base, 3+ to hit and 3+ to wound with -1 rend, damage 1. In a unit of 20 with a guild champion you are putting out 41 attacks. Additionally, with special abilities such as Oathsword Honour guard, and the (on foot) Freeguild general’s Hold the line, they get +1 to hit and +2 to hit with +1 to wound when not moving. Their ability Decapitating Swing also means unmodified hit rolls of 6 generate mortal wounds and it’s fair to say if you are rolling 41 attacks, there will be some 6’s. This unit hits like a truck and I must have it!
