Speed of the Raven- 25PL Dark Angels List Development & Gameplay

A few weeks ago, I played my first game of Warhammer 40k at 25PL and came away with a few observations. I was essentially running the combat patrol box and though I was able to make a mess of the enemy warlord in a single turn via the Redemptor’s Micro Plasma incinerator, I just didn’t have enough board presence. Due to this, my opponent was able to simply stay out of line of sight and capture the objectives, obtaining a comfortable win on points. I went back to the drawing board and came away with a revised list which I got to play on Thursday. Here is how it went…

Getting ready for my first game of 40k 9th Edition (With post game summary and my thoughts.)

My local gaming shop is re-opening it’s doors to players which means I will finally be able to play a game of 40k 9th edition. This is quite strange for me as though I’ve been involved with Warhammer for years, I’ve never been that involved in the gaming side of things. Since deciding to get back into 40k last year and getting my Dark Angels army, I’ve been fully intending to play and now the opportunity is finally here, I’m a bit nervous.

My Dark Angels Librarian & Crusade 50 power level army list

The final piece to the current version of my Dark Angels army is a librarian which I have been tinkering with for a little bit now. Following the release of the codex and seeing just how potent a Dark Angels psyker can be, I knew I had to get one. I picked up the primaris librarian model and began tinkering with it a bit.

Dark Angels Army progress- I hear you are a heretic now?

It’s been a few days since my last post showing the finished Legions of Nagash force and I’ve been busy working on my Dark Angels. I’ve built the Combat Patrol box as well as a Talon Master, meaning I now have all the miniatures built for my 2000 point list! However one step forward, two steps back…

My Dark Angels pre-orders arrived! Thoughts on the supplement & time to start list building.

Yesterday I received my Dark Angels pre-orders from my FLGS. I’ve opened everything, read through the majority of the supplement and must say, I’m over the moon with the book. Now it is quite thin, being just a supplement. (You will still need the main space marine codex if you want to play this faction.) However what it provides is background lore on the Dark Angels, as well as an explanation of the Chapter’s structure, squad markings and paint schemes for the main chapter itself, as well as the Dark Angels successor chapters.

Cities of Sigmar- 500 point list update

It’s been quite a busy week here but between work and progressing the Legions of Nagash army, I’ve managed to find a bit of time to work on my 500 point Cities of Sigmar force. The goal will be to have my list fully painted and ready to play against the Legions of Nagash 500 point force once this current lock down ends. So lets start with the list and then take a look at the current state of the minis.

Legions of Nagash- Halloween Update

As it’s Halloween today, it seems fitting to post an update on the Legions of Nagash ebay rescue project. I’ve made a bit of hobby progress since my previous update and though it’s a grim, rainy day here, I’ve taken some photos of the units I’ve been working on. Please note everything shown in this post is unfinished, though after getting base colours down and some washes, we can see the aesthetic direction the force is moving towards.

A.O.S Cities of Sigmar- List Tweaking for the glory of Sigmar!

To me, the Freeguild Greatswords are one of the coolest looking unit choices in the cities of sigmar range. What are essentially fantasy landsknecht soldiers, these guys pack one hell of a punch and look fancy doing it. 2 attacks base, 3+ to hit and 3+ to wound with -1 rend, damage 1. In a unit of 20 with a guild champion you are putting out 41 attacks. Additionally, with special abilities such as Oathsword Honour guard, and the (on foot) Freeguild general’s Hold the line, they get +1 to hit and +2 to hit with +1 to wound when not moving. Their ability Decapitating Swing also means unmodified hit rolls of 6 generate mortal wounds and it’s fair to say if you are rolling 41 attacks, there will be some 6’s. This unit hits like a truck and I must have it!
