Discovering Frostgrave 2nd Edition

About a month or so ago while browsing YouTube, I stumbled upon a interesting table top Fantasy skirmish game that really caught my imagination. The game is called Frostgrave and features players controlling a party of adventurers, headed by a wizard and wizard’s apprentice as they battle not only the other player, but also A.I. controlled monsters in an attempt to find treasure. Though characters share similar starting stat profiles, ten different schools of magic with a vast amount of spell options mean you can really make something that feels unique. This elegant simplicity (to start) yet complexity really appeals. I’ve not yet had chance to play sadly, but I’m really excited for this one so wanted to bring it to your attention, as well as show off some of the minis I’ve been working on for it.

eBay rescue project- Grey Knights

I have a habit of skimming through eBay for miniatures while bored. As many of you who share this trait know, a lot of the time offerings are overpriced or just not worth looking at. Sometimes you do find a bargain though and I did just that with this Grey Knight army. I was able to get the collection for a very good price and within a few days, my new hobby project had arrived!

Though I’ve a few other things in the works at the moment, I was too excited to not make a start on these and so decided to document my progress.

Dark Angels Crusade- Part 1: Setting Up

During the last few weeks I’ve been playing practice games of Warhammer 40k in preparation for a crusade campaign with my gaming group. It’s been a lot of fun getting to grips with my Dark Angels and I’ve slowly built up a list which I think will perform quite well while also being fluffy. In today’s blog post, I want to run through my Crusade Roster setup and talk about which units I’ve chose ahead of the coming games. Lets get to it.

1 Year of WordPress Blogging & Hobby updates

I received an e-mail this morning notifying me that this blog has been active for a year and what a strange year it has been. A side effect of the Covid crisis and being forced to stay in lockdown has been an increase in spare time for hobby projects. It’s been an opportunity to work through my backlog and get a few long term projects cleared away. What’s more, it’s been an opportunity to begin blogging about the hobby. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. 😀

Army on Parade- Adeptus Custodes

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while and show my Adeptus Custodes collection. These are some fantastic miniatures and where an absolute joy to paint, though I did find them quite challenging at times. Originally they where going to be Solar Watch, but the white armour just proved too challenging at the time for me to paint. The army ended up in storage for a good 6 months until I got them out again and decided it was time to have another attempt.

Building an Ironclad- Part 2

A little more progression today with the Ironclad for my Kharadron Overlords army. When it comes to Warhammer, I’m used to blitzing the construction phase to get to painting as quickly as possible. With a model as complex and large as the Ironclad however, slow and steady is proving to be the best philosophy. Here is my progress from where we left off in part 1.

Building an Ironclad- Part 1

There are some miniatures which are so awesome, they are the reason a hobbyist will start collecting an army. For myself, the Ironclad was the miniature which drew me to the Kharadron Overlords. A huge airship brimming with firepower, this centre piece model really makes a statement. Imposing, detailed and quirky, I love the Ironclad and so it was only a matter of time and saving before I got myself one. The model has been sat for a few weeks in my pile of shame but with A.O.S 3rd edition on the horizon, I felt now was a good time to get started. In this Blog series I aim to document my progress as I build and paint this airship. Lets get started!

Speed of the Raven- 25PL Dark Angels List Development & Gameplay

A few weeks ago, I played my first game of Warhammer 40k at 25PL and came away with a few observations. I was essentially running the combat patrol box and though I was able to make a mess of the enemy warlord in a single turn via the Redemptor’s Micro Plasma incinerator, I just didn’t have enough board presence. Due to this, my opponent was able to simply stay out of line of sight and capture the objectives, obtaining a comfortable win on points. I went back to the drawing board and came away with a revised list which I got to play on Thursday. Here is how it went…
