I have a habit of skimming through eBay for miniatures while bored. As many of you who share this trait know, a lot of the time offerings are overpriced or just not worth looking at. Sometimes you do find a bargain though and I did just that with this Grey Knight army. I was able to get the collection for a very good price and within a few days, my new hobby project had arrived!
Though I’ve a few other things in the works at the moment, I was too excited to not make a start on these and so decided to document my progress.
Here they are in all their glory! I’ll say this, the previous owner did a pretty good job with building the collection. The poses are not too bad and they even went through the trouble of magnetising weapon options for the Nemesis Dread knight as well as heavy weapons for the squads. I really didn’t expect this and it’s my first time having an army with magnetised options. With the new codex round the corner, the ability to switch out weapon options is fantastic and should “futureproof” the collection somewhat. My only complaint is the missing flight stand from the Stormhawk Interceptor. This was noted on the eBay listing though so I knew what I was getting.
Concerning pre-painting work, all I had to do on these was to remove mould lines. I spent an hour or so yesterday working my way through the collection and got them to a standard I was happy with.
After running a few errands this morning, I decided to get the grey knights primed with Leadbelcher spray before the rain comes. Thankfully it stayed off long enough for me to complete base coating. Nothing really to add here, everything went perfectly and here is the result.
I was feeling really excited after seeing the collection primed and so wanted to get a photo for the blog. I think the collection really pops now and I can’t wait to get onto this project properly. As well as getting the collection primed, I was able to order a replacement flight stand for the storm hawk.
It may be a few weeks before I return to this project as I’ve got some dark angels to finish as well as my Kharadron Overlords. I’m really excited to get onto this project though and it’s motivating me to finish current tasks so I can focus on these.
I remember seeing Grey knights for the first time as a kid and loving their aesthetic. The only problem was I was a kid! No way could I afford a grey knight army on pocket money rates. Fast forward to me turning 30 and I’ve finally got myself a Grey Knight force. I guess I made it!
